This a great book, and worth persevering with even though it's quite long (380 pages). The House of the Scorpion is set in the world of drug dealing and rich drug lords and takes place in the future near Mexico. There is a lot of action in this book, and I always felt compelled to read on, as there are lots of secrets that are hidden from the reader until the last moment.
