How easy was it to get stuck into this book?
This book follows four boys in the summer of 1949 who make an exciting discovery in an abandoned area. Andrew, Eddie, Bob and Manny discover an unexploded bomb at the derelict wasteground near them, but the question is do they realise the true danger of what is going on?
Who are the main characters?
The main characters are the four young boys. There's Eddie, who is the ringleader of most of the things they do, Andrew, who the story is presented through, Bob, who went through a horrifying childhood experience and so has a stutter and Manny, who is Jewish.
What's the storyline?
The four boys discover the unexploded bomb on the abandoned site, but are undecided as to what to do about it. They end up regarding it as their secret weapon for use when necessary. The four boys also meet Cap, the slick, exciting man who they find on the bomb site one day. They trust him completely, but when events develop, and they realise the power they hold, they must thing carefully about what to do.
How's it written?
The book is probably best suited for younger to middling readers.
