Gobbo The Great

by Gillian Cross

Mammoth, 1991, 141 pages, ISBN 0 7497 0605 8

How easy was it to get stuck into this book?
Hard to get into.

Who are the main characters?
The main characters are Barny, Spag and Clipper, who are three children attending an ancient school.

What's the storyline?
For a school project Barny and his friends do a 'future scope'. But why does Thrasher Dyson seem so interested in their project?

How's it written?
Slightly boring in places.

Other books by the same author that Tim knows about?
Save our School, The Mintyglo Kid, Swimathon! are about the Barny and his friends too. Gillian Cross has also written books for older readers, like Calling a Dead Man

The overall verdict is
Well worth a look

Quick Pick
- 10 September 2010 -

"America is Me" is all about a boy called America who's in an institution, being treated for depression.. He's slipped through the cracks in the system more times than he can count. His story is painful and haunting, and it's up to the endlessly patient Dr B to bring it out of him, to finally help America out of his problems and see the way to a brighter future. It's a vivid, powerful read with unforgettable characters, writes Alex (15) from the Isle of Wight.
