Control Shift

by Nick Manns

Hodder Children's Books, 2000, 196 pages, ISBN 0 340 76511 9

How easy was it to get stuck into this book?
The beginning is slightly slow but it picks up pace towards the end.

Who are the main characters?
The story is written from the viewpoint of the older brother of the family who is called George Hayton. It is presented as if he were talking about it after the event and as if it were true. His younger sister Matty also features largely within the story.

What's the storyline?
The Hayton family move into a new house and discover strange things start to happen. History repeats itself while the two children try to unearth what happened there in the past, and things soon become more scary for the two children than they could have ever imagined.

How's it written?
The book is written in the style of someone reciting events that have happened to them in the past. As such it is quite easy to read.

Other books by the same author that Chris knows about?
None

The overall verdict is
Really good stuff

Quick Pick
- 10 September 2010 -

Transplant by Malcolm Rose gets off to an explosive start and pretty much maintains this fast pace all the way through. There are lots of parts which keep you on the edge of your seat, and not sure what is going to happen. The book is mostly about Cassie, an Irish girl who becomes embroiled in the fight between Catholics and Protestants. She gets her face and hands burned by acid and ends up in the Department of Experimental Medicine, where her life changes forever.
